A birthday party for kids is a big deal, especially to parents. They want their kids to enjoy the party so much. Parents want to share their input during the planning stage, and they want a big role in the execution part. Because the theme party is probably one of the best things that could happen to a kid or a group of kids, it should be a blast.

Theme parties are easy to set up on paper, but in reality, they’re difficult to plan. The theme should be clear to all the guests early on, so that they can start planning for their outfit. You risk having to deal with guests that don’t know about the theme when they show up. Here are more tips for you if you need help planning a theme party for children.

1. Confer With the Celebrant and the Parents

The kids must be able to relate to the theme. Some kids have tastes that are different from others. Themes are also gender-based so make sure the theme is appropriate to the gender of the celebrant. Perhaps the wisest thing you can do is to ask the celebrant about his opinion. If the celebrant cannot speak yet, it’s better to ask his or her parents.

If there is no preferred theme, you can simply use color to theme up the party. Girls love colors like pink, while boys like blue.

2. Party Favors

Kids would usually expect party favors whenever they attend a party. If it’s a princess party, make sure that the favors contain an element of the theme, even if it’s just the wrapping. Boys should be able to receive a favor too, even if the party is girl-themed. Boys that attend a princess party are not supposed to receive tiaras or fairy wands. For boys, prepare something that one of the Disney princes would wear, like a sword or a shield. A crown is also fitting for little boys, as long as the design is not too girly.

3. Menu

The party should never lack sustenance in any way. Any party needs good food to work. The menu should also contain food that grownups would enjoy. Grilled food can be an option if the weather allows grilling in the backyard. You can grill hot dogs for the kids and some tenderloin steaks for the parents. You can also serve pies, salads and corn on the cob. Someone can be in charge of distributing drinks.
